Connect ChatGPT, Claude or another AI app to your site

As well as the AI assistant built into the editor, you can connect an AI app you already pay for. It can then read and edit this one site on your behalf.

This is available on Pro, Business and Enterprise.

Find your connector address

1. Open Settings for the site from the site menu at the top of the left rail.
2. Go to AI & code.
3. Under Connect an AI assistant, copy the AI connector URL. It looks like https://www.contentmetric.com/api/mcp/your-site.

Older sites, the ones you manage from the dashboard rather than the editor, show the same address on the project's AI Assistant page. Their old address, the one ending in /mcp, keeps working for apps that already use it.

ChatGPT

1. In ChatGPT, open Plugins (chatgpt.com/plugins). If you do not see the plus button, turn on Developer mode under Settings, Apps, Advanced settings first.
2. Press +, then Add custom MCP server.
3. Give it a name, paste the connector address, and keep authentication on OAuth.
4. Read the notice, press I understand and want to continue, then Create as a plugin.
5. A ContentMetric tab opens. Sign in if asked, check the site name, press Allow.
6. In a chat, type @ and pick the plugin.

Claude (claude.ai and the Claude desktop app)

1. Open Customize, then Connectors.
2. Press + Add, then Add custom connector.
3. Give it a name and paste the connector address. Leave Sign in now and Use Claude's published identity as they are. If Claude cannot connect that way, choose Register automatically instead.
4. Press Add. A ContentMetric window opens: sign in if asked, press Allow.
5. In a chat, press + and turn the connector on.

Claude Desktop uses the same Connectors screen. The claude_desktop_config.json file is for apps that run on your own computer, not for this.

Claude Code

1. In your project folder run: claude mcp add --transport http contentmetric-your-site https://www.contentmetric.com/api/mcp/your-site (add --scope user to use it in every project).
2. Inside Claude Code type /mcp, pick the server, and choose Authenticate. Your browser opens; press Allow.
3. claude mcp list should show it as Connected.

Cursor

1. Open ~/.cursor/mcp.json (create it if it does not exist) and add: { "mcpServers": { "contentmetric": { "url": "https://www.contentmetric.com/api/mcp/your-site" } } }
2. In Cursor's MCP settings press Needs login next to the server. Your browser opens; press Allow.

Other apps

Any app that supports MCP over Streamable HTTP with OAuth works with the connector address. If your app cannot sign in, create a token under Access tokens on the same page (older sites: the API Tokens page) and send it as Authorization: Bearer YOUR_TOKEN. The token is shown once.

Keep control

• On the Allow page you choose how long the connection lasts: 30 days, 90 days, 1 year or No expiry. 90 days is chosen for you. When it ends, the app asks you to sign in again.
• Connected AI apps (Connected apps on the dashboard's AI Assistant page) lists everything you have approved, with the last time each was used. Revoke cuts one off straight away. On an older site this list is Active connections on the AI Assistant page.
• A connected app can only reach this one site, and never more than your own role allows. On a site built in the editor you need the Editor role (or Admin or Owner) to connect an app, and a Viewer is asked to get that role first. On an older site a Viewer can connect an app that reads but cannot change anything.

Common questions

Do edits from a connected app use credits? No. Credits cover the AI built into ContentMetric. A connected app uses its own subscription.

I pressed Allow and nothing happened. Close the tab and press Connect again in the app. If it happens twice, write to support with the app name and the time.

The page says my account is not a member. You are signed in to ContentMetric with a different account. Use Switch account on that page, or ask the site owner to invite that email.

The page says to ask for Editor access. Your role on the site is Viewer. Ask the site owner to give you the Editor role in ContentMetric, then connect again.

The page says the connector needs a paid plan. The connector is part of Pro and above. Use the Upgrade link on that page.

My app stopped working and asks me to sign in again. The connection reached the end of the time you chose on the Allow page, or someone revoked it. Connect again from the app.
